Play to Learn - Level 1
Stepping on the ice for the first time or just starting to get more comfortable in your skates? The Canlan Play to Learn progression model is a multi-level class designed specifically for new players! With our friendly instructors, players focus on staying in motion and on developing a love for the game through interactive games and free play. Our primary goal is for participants to build trust with our coaches and to feel comfortable with the trial and error that comes with learning any new sport! At the Play to Learn - Level 1, players' skill focus includes learning basic skills of balance, multi-directional movements, and an introduction to edges.
Drills & Skills
Play to Develop - Level 1
Gained the basic skills from our Play to Learn Program? You're ready for Play to Develop, where players build the fundamentals of stick handling, passing and shooting. With a curriculum that's split between developing the fundamentals of playing with the puck and using those skills in more engaging, free flowing drills, players get to do exercises that involve teamwork and making plays together. In this stage, they'll be introduced to stickhandling around obstacles, passing and receiving the puck, keeping the hands away from their body, and controlling the puck in motion. During the Play to Develop stage, Canlan Instructors focus on developing participants' confidence and leadership abilities.
Play to Perform - Level 1
Transition to drills that require players to use multiple skills at once in the Play to Perform Program. Applying the individual skills from the Play to Develop program, participants perform them in a more competitive environment and gain confidence as they transition to full ice games. While competing against others in a positive, fun environment, players perform angling, give and go, and flow drills - all while protecting the puck in traffic.
