We’re getting set to welcome 5-on-5 hockey back to Canlan Ice Sports – North Shore
this September. But hurry, once we’re full — we’re full!

We’re tweaking the rules for our 5-on-5 format to create more space in the offensive zone, a free-flowing game, and additional measures that prioritize safety and reduce incidental contact.

You may notice things look a little different at the rink this Fall. From physical distancing to reduced amenities, we’re taking progressive action to ensure you’re safe at the rink this season.

Questions? We get it. Shoot an e-mail over to Stan and he’ll be able to answer any questions you have about the rink, our upcoming season, or something else that springs to mind.

Let’s try to save you an e-mail and answer some questions about the ASHL this Fall.

What will modified rules entail?
As we transition from our Summer 4-on-4 to a 5-on-5 format for the Fall, we will be implementing some rule modification within the 5-on-5 game to ensure that physical distancing and reduced contact remain as priorities in our game-play. You can expect several of our 4-on-4 rules to continue to be part of our 5-on-5 game, as well as more stringent intentional contact penalties, and lower thresholds for penalty accumulation over the course of the season.

Where can I find the new rules?
A full list of rule changes will be available online prior to the start of the season and distributed to team reps.

Why are their roster caps at each game?
In order to ensure physical distancing in the dressing room and on the player’s benches, we have the following roster maximums that can be present at a game: 5-on-5 (13 skaters +1 goalie). Teams are permitted to register additional players on their roster, however they cannot have more than the aforementioned maximums physically present at a game.

What’s changing at the rink?
All patrons and participants at Canlan Ice Sports locations will notice some changes when they come back to the rink, including reduced amenities that are available. Controls will be in place to provide you with a specified path to the rink you’re playing on, and limit any opportunities to come into contact with another individual without proper physical distancing. With Zone Attendants and Health and Safety Ambassadors on-site, our goal is to provide as safe of an environment as we can.

Do I need to wear a mask while I play?
At this time, wearing a mask is not a requirement for participation, however in jurisdictions where mask orders are in effect, players will be required to wear a personal mask at all times aside from participating directly in an on-ice activity.

Can we use credits towards league fees this season?
Yes, team reps are welcome to use any credit that may be on file towards the upcoming season.

What would cause the format or gameplay to change in season?
Participants acknowledge and accept that, if required by a Government or Public Health agency, changes to our format or rules will be considered in the event of a change in Provincial sport guidelines.

What happens if the season has to stop due to COVID-19?
Please contact Stan for additional information on COVID-19 stoppage scenarios for the upcoming season.

In order to ensure that our operations remain fluid and follow the guidance of government and health agencies, please note that operations, policies, and procedures are always subject to change.
