VANCOUVER, B.C. — On January 7th, British Columbia’s Public Health Officer (PHO) announced the extension of provincial health orders through to midnight on February 5th, 2021. These public health orders include restrictions on a number of businesses within the Province, which also prevent organized team sports from partaking in gameplay.
As such, the ASHL Winter ’21 start dates have been adjusted to no earlier than February 5th for our Burnaby, Langley, and North Shore locations — with our targeted date of resumption for our Armstrong location being the same.
You probably have some questions about what this all means, so allow us to provide some additional clarity:
- Start Date: Based on this announcement, our intention would be to resume ASHL gameplay in British Columbia no earlier than February 5th. Should measures be extended beyond that date, adjustments to the targeted start date will be made, accordingly.
- Season Length: For the Lower Mainland, the intention will be to play an 18-game schedule per the targeted start date. We have made a commitment that the Winter ’21 season will play no later than May 20th, so in the event that it is not possible to play 18-games — including playoffs — by that date, the team fees will be adjusted to reflect the pro-rated number of games we’re able to play.
- Safety First: During this break, we’ve continued to work diligently to ensure that our health and safety protocols are best-in-class, and that we’re prioritizing your safety at the rink. We respect the difficult decisions and leadership that the PHO has demonstrated thus far, and remain optimistic that this course of action will provide a path that permits sports gameplay to resume in February.
In the meantime, our locations remain open for permissible youth programming within BC’s current framework. Please visit icesports.com for additional information on current youth program offerings and ice rentals.
